I am less than two weeks away from my 30th birthday.
As I approach this milestone, I have been reflecting on God’s grace in my 30 years of life so far, and contemplating my aims for however many more years that God plans for me.
My Grade 10 English teacher once told my class: the wish to have done something differently is a sign of maturity.
This past Sunday, I listened to a pastor whose sermon included an analogy of how financial planners sell their services. Financial planners often tell us to start investing as early in our lives as possible. If we fail to have invested in our early years, financial planners would tell us to start immediately – better late than never.
Putting the two thoughts together, I wish I have been keeping a diary for self-reflection. I wish I have been writing my thoughts and ideas for sharing with friends and family. I wish I have been practicing to write more effectively and efficiently. I wish I have been writing a blog.
Therefore, here I am! Revinery is my new blog. Revinery is my portmanteau of two words: vine and refinery.
Jesus tells us that he is the vine and we are his branches (John 15:5). He tells us to abide in him. By abiding in Christ, as branches to vines, we glorify God (John 15:8).
Refinery was inspired from an old song, Refiner’s Fire, by Brian Doerksen. The song is in reference to Zechariah 13:9: “… I will … refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold as tested”.
It is my hope that God will continue to refine me, and that I will abide in him and He in me, for the rest of my days.
